Michael Morse Death, Obituary: On Monday, July 06, 2026, at 11:13 am, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a body on the rocks at the bottom of the cliff at Palisade Head

It is with heavy hearts that we remember Michael Morse, 64, of Duluth, Minnesota, whose life was tragically cut short following an incident at Palisade Head in Tettegouche State Park.

Authorities responded to the scenic overlook early Monday afternoon after a report of a body on the rocks at the base of the cliff. Emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 11:13 a.m., and members of the Lake County Rescue Squad and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office recovered Michael a short time later.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the case remains under investigation, with assistance from the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office. At this time, officials have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding his death.

Michael’s passing is a heartbreaking reminder of how precious and fragile life can be. While many may have known him in different ways—as a family member, friend, neighbor, or colleague—his loss leaves a void that cannot easily be filled. Those who loved him are undoubtedly mourning the absence of someone whose presence brought meaning to their lives.

As investigators continue their work to determine exactly what happened, the community joins together in extending heartfelt sympathy to Michael’s family, friends, and everyone grieving this unimaginable loss. During moments like these, words often feel inadequate, but compassion and support can provide comfort to those facing profound sorrow.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office also expressed its appreciation to the many agencies that assisted with the recovery efforts, including the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Marine Unit, the Minnesota State Patrol, Lake County Ambulance Service, and the dedicated staff of Tettegouche State Park.

Sadly, this marks the second fatality reported at Palisade Head this summer. Earlier this year, on May 27, authorities recovered the body of Seth Pipho of Minneapolis near the base of the cliffs. Officials later determined that his death was the result of an accidental fall, with the medical examiner ruling the cause as multiple blunt-force injuries sustained from the fall.

Palisade Head is one of Minnesota’s most breathtaking natural landmarks, drawing thousands of visitors each year to admire its towering cliffs and spectacular views of Lake Superior. While its beauty is undeniable, these tragic incidents serve as a solemn reminder of the importance of exercising extreme caution when visiting elevated scenic areas.

As Michael Morse’s loved ones navigate the difficult days ahead, may they find strength in one another, comfort in cherished memories, and peace in the outpouring of love and support from the community.

Rest in peace, Michael Morse. Your memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved you.

Our deepest condolences and prayers go out to Michael’s family, friends, and all who are mourning this heartbreaking loss. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
