Tracy Dale Mosteller Death, Obituary: Killed, Kevin Lee Long Seriously Injured in Fiery Head-On Crash on NC 27 in Lincoln County

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol has released new information regarding a tragic and fiery head-on crash in Lincoln County that claimed the life of Tracy Dale Mosteller, 59, of Vale, and left Kevin Lee Long, 52, of Iron Station, seriously injured. Investigators say impairment is suspected as a contributing factor in the devastating collision, which occurred Wednesday morning on NC 27 near Long Circle. The investigation remains ongoing, and charges are expected once it is completed.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the fatal crash happened at approximately 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, when troopers responded to the scene along NC 27 near Long Circle in Iron Station.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2001 Ford Expedition, driven by Kevin Lee Long, was traveling westbound on NC 27 when it crossed the center line into the eastbound lane. The Ford then collided head-on with a 2016 Volvo being driven by Tracy Dale Mosteller.

The force of the impact was catastrophic. Following the collision, the Ford Expedition became engulfed in flames, creating a dangerous and heartbreaking scene for first responders arriving at the crash site.

Emergency personnel rushed to provide aid to both drivers. Kevin Lee Long sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center Main in Charlotte for emergency treatment. His current condition has not been publicly updated.

Sadly, Tracy Dale Mosteller suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. His sudden passing has left family members, friends, and the Vale community mourning the loss of a loved one whose life was tragically cut short.
