Following the crash, one lane was restricted on the westbound side of the bypass as emergency crews worked at the scene. Traffic began building quickly, with queues stretching between Calder and Baberton and causing longer journey times for drivers travelling through the area.
Further congestion was reported at other points along the Edinburgh City Bypass. Two lanes were restricted near Dreghorn Junction, while additional traffic restrictions were also introduced at Lothianburn and between Lasswade and Gilmerton Junctions.
Traffic Scotland confirmed the disruption, reporting an accident on the A720 westbound at Baberton and Calder from 2:41 p.m., with one lane restricted while the response continued.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass was closed westbound at the Dreghorn Junction following a two-vehicle collision at around 2:40 p.m. on Friday, July 10.
Motorists were advised to plan alternative routes, allow extra travel time and follow updates from authorities as emergency services managed the incident and worked to clear the affected area.
