The Connecticut community is mourning the tragic loss of Bridgeport Police Officer Cooper Whiteside and Brittany Islami, who were killed in a motorcycle crash early Monday morning in Danbury.
According to the Danbury Police Department, the collision occurred at approximately 2:45 a.m. on Sugar Hollow Road. Preliminary findings indicate that 38-year-old Cooper Whiteside of Danbury was operating a Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveling southbound when it collided with a northbound Jeep Compass.
Whiteside and his passenger, 34-year-old Brittany Islami of New Milford, sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Jeep suffered serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Authorities have not released additional information regarding the driver’s condition.
The loss of Officer Whiteside has deeply impacted both the law enforcement and first responder communities. Bridgeport Police Chief Porter expressed profound sorrow over the tragedy, describing Whiteside as an officer who served with honor and dignity since joining the department in July 2024. He extended heartfelt condolences to Whiteside’s family, friends, and fellow officers, noting that his dedication and service would never be forgotten.
Beyond his law enforcement career, Whiteside was a longtime member of the West Redding Volunteer Fire Department, where he served in numerous leadership roles, including firefighter, EMT, lieutenant, training captain, and vice president. Fellow members remembered him as someone widely respected throughout the community for his commitment to public service and willingness to help others.
Following the crash, the Danbury Police Accident Investigation Team responded to conduct accident reconstruction and collect evidence. Sugar Hollow Road remained closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene.
Authorities continue to investigate the exact cause of the collision and have not announced whether any contributing factors have been identified.
