Winfield Man Killed, Tyrone Man Seriously Injured in Rollover Crash in McClure

McCLURE, Pa. — A Winfield man was killed and a Tyrone man suffered serious injuries in a single-vehicle rollover crash Saturday evening in McClure, according to local authorities.

The crash occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Saturday along U.S. Route 522, just north of Forbes Street. Officers with the Middleburg Police Department responded to the scene after receiving reports of a serious rollover accident.

Police identified the victim as Ronald Whitman Jr., 31, of Winfield, who was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

The second occupant, Clinton Muir, 32, of Tyrone, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted by medical helicopter to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville for treatment.

According to the preliminary investigation, the vehicle rapidly accelerated after leaving the intersection of Route 522 and Specht Street. Investigators said the vehicle lost traction, began to spin, and ultimately rolled down an embankment.

During the rollover, both occupants were ejected from the vehicle, authorities said.

Emergency crews responded quickly to secure the scene and provide medical assistance. Route 522 was temporarily closed for approximately one hour while investigators documented the crash and crews cleared the roadway. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) assisted with traffic control and established a detour around the crash site.

The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation. Authorities have not released additional details regarding possible contributing factors.

The fatal crash has left family members, friends, and the surrounding community mourning the loss of Ronald Whitman Jr. while hoping for the recovery of Clinton Muir as investigators continue working to determine exactly what caused the vehicle to lose control. Police have not announced whether any additional information or findings will be released as the investigation progresses.
