On Friday morning, at approximately 6:14 a.m., Ian was traveling eastbound on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle in the 5000 block of Avenue O in Fort Madison. According to the Iowa State Patrol, a westbound Chevrolet Impala driven by 51-year-old Reginald L. Range of Burlington allegedly turned left into a private driveway in front of Ianโs motorcycle. Investigators reported that the vehicle failed to yield while making the turn, resulting in a collision between the two vehicles.
Emergency responders were called to the scene, where medical assistance was arranged and air medical support was placed on standby. Despite the response, Ian sadly did not survive the collision. Range was not injured in the incident.
The crash led to the closure of all four lanes of Avenue O between 48th Street and 53rd Street as authorities investigated what happened. The roadway reopened at approximately 9:45 a.m. Several agencies responded to assist, including Fort Madison Police, Fort Madison Fire, the Iowa State Patrol, Lee County EMS, Fort Madison Public Works, and the Lee County Sheriffโs Office. The Iowa State Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking incident.
