Authorities reported that a red 1987 Chevrolet C7 dump truck, driven by 52-year-old William D. Diver of Canfield, was turning right from a private driveway onto eastbound State Route 224. At the same time, Eugene was traveling eastbound on the roadway on a black 1996 Harley-Davidson motorcycle when his motorcycle struck the rear of the dump truck.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene, but Eugene was pronounced deceased at the location. Diver reportedly suffered no injuries.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol stated that drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the collision. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
Assisting authorities at the scene were the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office, the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office, the Ellsworth Fire Department, and Ellsworth EMS.
