With profound sorrow, family, friends, neighbors, and the Rittman, Ohio, community mourn the heartbreaking loss of Christine McWilliams, 43, and her 13-year-old daughter, McKinley McWilliams, whose lives were tragically taken during a domestic violence-related shooting at their home on Chippewa Trail on the evening of July 5, 2026.

This heartbreaking incident also claimed the life of Rittman Police Sgt. Scott Ries, who was killed while responding to protect the community. Several other law enforcement officers, including four Medina County Sheriff’s deputies and Wayne County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Vick, were injured during the response. Their courage and sacrifice underscore the dangers first responders face while serving others.
