Azle Police Investigating Double Homicide; Fort Worth Man Arrested on Capital Murder Charges
AZLE, Texas — A Fort Worth man has been arrested and charged with two counts of capital murder following the deaths of two women who were found inside an Azle residence Thursday morning, according to the Azle Police Department.
At approximately 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2026, officers with the Azle Police Department and personnel from the Azle Fire Department responded to a reported suspicious situation in the 200 block of Stewart Bend Court.
Upon arriving at the scene, first responders determined that the circumstances warranted an immediate welfare check. Officers entered the home and discovered two adult women, identified as a mother and daughter, deceased from what investigators described as apparent gunshot wounds.
The deaths prompted an extensive homicide investigation led by the Azle Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
Investigators worked in coordination with the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Rangers to gather evidence and determine what had occurred. Authorities said the investigation included the use of FLOCK camera technology, along with physical evidence recovered at the scene.
According to police, investigators identified Joseph Gordon, of Fort Worth, as the suspect in the killings. Authorities allege Gordon was responsible for the deaths of his wife and his mother-in-law.
The Texas Rangers subsequently took Gordon into custody. He is currently being processed at the Parker County Jail, where he faces two counts of Capital Murder.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims, pending notification of additional family members and further investigative procedures.
The investigation remains active as detectives continue processing evidence, conducting interviews, and working to establish the full timeline and circumstances surrounding the fatal shootings.
Police have not disclosed a possible motive or indicated whether any additional charges may be filed as the investigation progresses.
As with all criminal proceedings, the charges against Joseph Gordon are allegations. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
The Azle Police Department stated that additional information will be released as it becomes available and as the ongoing investigation allows.
