Vanderhoof Shooting Today: Shelter-in-place order lifted for Vanderhoof, rural outskirts

A shelter-in-place order for Vanderhoof and Electoral Area F in the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako issued on the afternoon of Thursday, July 9 has been lifted.

The order was issued at 2:24 p.m. The alert specifically mentioned the presence of an active shooter.

Area F of the RDBN covers the rural areas in all directions surrounding Vanderhoof.

When The Citizen called the Vanderhoof RCMP detachment at 2:44 p.m., the person who answered the phone said the order had been lifted about 10 minutes prior.

In the late morning, Cpl. Jennifer Cooper of the Prince George RCMP confirmed that units from the detachment’s Emergency Response Team had been deployed to that area but that she didn’t have any further information on the situation.

The BC RCMP confirmed the deployment by email at 1:43 p.m. but said “we are not releasing operational details to allow officers to safely carry out their work without compromising the ongoing response.”

With the lifting of the shelter-in-place order, The Citizen has requested further details.
