Community Mourns the Loss of 15-Year-Old Yandel Gonzalez
On Saturday, July 11, our community suffered a heartbreaking loss with the death of 15-year-old Yandel Gonzalez, whose life was cut short by gun violence. His passing has left his family, friends, classmates, teammates, and all who knew him grieving the loss of a young life filled with promise.
Yandel was a student at South High School and was actively involved in both academics and athletics. He had a passion for sports and was a dedicated boxer with South Side Sluggers, where he earned the respect of coaches and teammates through his commitment, determination, and positive attitude.
Known for his warm heart and outgoing personality, Yandel had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome. He was incredibly social, full of energy, and always ready to lend a smile or a kind word. His caring nature and genuine spirit allowed him to build lasting friendships wherever he went.
