According to the Lea County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the scene at approximately 1:47 a.m., following a collision that occurred around 1:30 a.m. When a patrol deputy arrived, both commercial vehicles were fully engulfed in flames on the north side of the intersection. Preliminary information from investigators indicates that Luis Diaz Mederos was driving a Kenworth commercial motor vehicle northbound on Orla Road when the vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign.
